kingcoal: OK. Without coal or any other thermal generation inputs, is it really feasible to satisfy total electricity demand of this country? Some peopel have pointed out RE storage, pump storage, etc. But will they come on line any soon? What about the cost?

solar2016: CEB to build first phase (100 MW) of Mannar wind power project -- This is a very good move on the part of CEB. So far the question had been NOT who built NCRE projects in this country BUT why no big NCRE projects were coming up. At last some action!!!

Bio Energy Association of Sri Lanka (BEASL) was formed by a group of concerned citizens to promote the use of indigenous resources for both generation of electricity and thermal energy requirements and thus reduce the dependence on imported fossil fuels.
In the backdrop of power shortages and the escalation of costs of energy, the value of biomass energy has at last received the attention of the government authorities.
In order to offer well considered opinions and advice for the formulation of necessary policies and plans, BEASL has been incorporated as an association under the Companies Act.
